Omega-3 Fats!

Amanda B. from Portland, OR asks...
Why are omega-3 fats so important?
If you are not taking an omega 3 fat what are you waiting for?? These fats have been very well studied and are essential for optimal health. They have been found to reduce rates of heart disease, cancer, and are great for the health of the brain.

Another reason to supplement with this oil is that most Americans are eating 20-50x's the omega 6 fats (vegetable oils) compared to omega 3 fats; this ratio of 20:1 or 50:1 is a far cry from the recommended 1:1 ratio we need. As many studies point out high levels of omega 6 compared to omega 3's can contribute to inflammation and dementia.

While the best source of EPA/DHA (omega 3) is fish such as tuna, salmon and white fish, it is hard to get the amounts of omega 3's needed because most of these fish are farm raised. Farm raised fish does not eat it's natural diet, therefore it can't produce the necessary nutrients it does in the wild.

Other sources of this nutrient are flax seeds, walnuts, leafy greens but these sources are very minimal.
